Kate Garrett – Watercolour Illustrator & Artist
Award-winning watercolour illustrator creating original artwork for publishing, greeting cards, gifts, textiles, cross stitch and private commissions.
Watercolour Illustrator & Artist from Devon
I'm Kate Garrett, an award-winning illustrator based in Devon, specialising in traditional watercolour illustration.
For more than 20 years I have created original artwork for children's books, greeting cards, gifts, homeware, textiles, cross stitch kits and private commissions. My work combines watercolour, coloured pencil and fine ink, with a particular love of animals, wildlife, the countryside and gentle, characterful illustrations.
I work from my Devon studio, creating artwork by hand rather than digitally. My illustrations are designed to have warmth, personality and a timeless quality — something that feels at home on a greeting card, in a children's book or as a treasured piece of artwork.
I am available for illustration commissions, publishing projects, licensing and commercial artwork.
Featured projects:
Children's Book Illustration
A project to tech children cardinal directions
Villager Jim
Animal Illustrations for a range of products
Greeting Cards
I create a full range of card for several companies
Cross Stitch kits
Working with Bothy Threads, I developed a range of best selling kits
Children's Book Illustration
Characterful watercolour artwork created to bring children's stories and characters to life. As a children's book illustrator, I enjoy creating expressive characters, engaging scenes and gentle storytelling through traditional watercolour illustration. This project was about a Granny who blew off over the countryside in all different cardinal directions. With things to spot on every page and a map at the end.
Greeting Cards and advent calendars
Original watercolour illustrations created for greeting card publishers and licensed card collections.
Animal & Bespoke Illustration
Wildlife, farm animals, pets and bespoke illustrations created for private and commercial clients. Working with Villager Jim, I created a huge range of dog and cat illustrations for his shop. We then added British Wildlife characters and then some African wildlife for Father's day gifts.
Pets, Wildlife & Countryside
Painted in my own unique style, I specialise in animals of all sorts, cats, dogs, horse, farm animals and wildlife
Cross Stitch & Product Illustration
Original paintings adapted for Bothy Threads cross stitch including their bestseller several year running.
Buildings and landscape
Kate's delicate free watercolours can be used to illustrate a special place.
More animals
A more pictorial animal collection
Book cover illustration
Working with a local publishing company, I have painted a range of book covers in a more traditional style for a collection of vintage novels.
